If you are reading this newsletter, there’s a good chance you have already met Eric Morton.  He has had the privilege of working with many of you through the Law Offices of Eric D. Morton for over 20 years.   But you may not know that, in addition to representing dozens of clients with intellectual property matters, corporate legal issues, contracts, and civil litigation, Eric has been an adjunct faculty member at California Western School of Law for over a year.  He is the supervising attorney at the Trademark Clinic, teaching law students how to handle trademark applications for entrepreneurs and small business owners. In the fall, he will also be teaching the substantive Trademark Law class.

Last year, Eric took a trip to Paris and the Champagne region of France, where he was humbled to tour the WWI battlefields, the U.S.cemetery, and many memorials of the U.S. role in the “Great War,” which surround Chateau Thierry.  New email:

Mike Ritter and Eric have had a working relationship for over 10 years, since Eric first helped Mike establish several business entities. Today, Mike works with the firm, advising clients on real estate, telecommunications, and estate planning matters.  He specializes in cell site leasing and has recently represented two San Diego landlords in disputes with their cell company tenants.  He has also been advising an elderly client and family members on possible elder abuse claims and revised an estate plan for another family who recently located to San Diego.

When he is not at work, Mike devotes his time to his two young children, and was recently elected President of the Calavera Hills Elementary PTA for 2015-2016.  By the time you read this article, Mike should be relaxing on the East Coast with family and friends.  New email:

It has been three years since Caron Woodward first started working with the firm, helping us to successfully defend a small business owner in North County who was sued by a well-funded national corporation attempting to put our client out of business. With a team effort by Eric, Caron, Kellie, and Anna, we achieved a real victory.  The client's business not only survived but is now thriving.  Caron is excited to be working from the firm’s downtown San Diego Office, with easy access to both the Central Courthouse and Probate Court, where she is representing several clients on probate matters.  In addition to representing clients in estate and trust administration, Caron is a probate litigator. She also continues to represent small businesses and their owners in business litigation.  She recently stepped up as the newest Editor of the North County Lawyer, and stays busy providing pro bono legal services to the community.  She serves as a mediator for the San Diego Superior Court small claims division and volunteers at the Temporary Restraining Order Clinic, where she helps victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, and civil harassment obtain the protection they need to stay safe.

Caron speaks Spanish, has a passion for all kinds of travel, and is now planning a trip to Spain, where she lived for several years, so she can visit friends while she enjoys some tapas and sangria!  New email:

Kellie Delaney has worked with the firm periodically since 2010.  This year, she helped an entrepreneur in the Santa Ynez Valley negotiate contracts and create a corporation, and researched trademarks for an Orange County startup.  She also enjoyed her work as an outsourced litigation case manager for a healthcare company. From 2011 to 2015, she acted as corporate counsel for a young technology company.  There, she managed corporate and HR matters, provided the management team with advice as they transitioned through organizational changes, managed the intellectual property portfolio, and established strategic partnerships.  She now works in R&D for another technology company.  After shepherding a nonprofit in the Central Coast through their Form 1023 application (for section501(c)(3) status) several years ago, she has continued to provide legal counsel and to serve as their corporate secretary. The nonprofit gleans and redirectslocal produce from farms, farmers markets, and orchards and delivers it to charitable organizations, senior centers, and school lunch programs in Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez and Santa Maria, at no charge.

As the firm now has an office in San Francisco, Kellie is happy for a chance to spend more time in the Bay area, so she can visit her son in Oakland and frequent the many independent bookstores (not to mention drink great coffee)!  New email:

As a group, our team’s interests range widely.  One case in point is the recent trip of Anna Burnett to Dubai and India, where she went to the top of the world's tallestbuilding and marveled at the beauty of the Taj Mahal.  Anna has been working with the firm since 2012, when she worked as a law clerk while studying for the bar exam.  She is interested in technology and has been the “go to” person for many trademark matters, including applications and responses to USPTO Office Actions.  In addition to her intellectual property practice, Anna counsels businesses on formation and assists with governance. Earlier this year, Anna attended the 2015 World Technology Law Conference, where she learned more about international privacy and internet practices, and networked with local startups at San Diego Startup Week.

Anna is working from our downtown office and like Caron and Kellie, she is also available at our San Francisco office. New email:
